An expanded version of a five-part series in The New Yorker entitled, Casualties of the Workplace. The articles described the nationwide asbestos health hazard in detail, and exposed the existence of a medical-industrial establishment whose members conspired to keep knowledge of occupational and environmental hazards from public knowledge.
They won a National Magazine Award for The New Yorker, and a Sidney Hillman Foundation Award and a Guggenheim Foundation Award for their author.
